Mentoring and Supervision
In addition to my work as a practitioner, I offer mentoring/supervision to acupuncturists. I am part of a national network of qualified supervisors, and I am also a validated mentor/supervisor under the aegis of the British Acupuncture Council.
Why have mentoring/supervision?
Mentoring provides a safe and confidential space in which to discuss your work. It gives you a regular opportunity to focus on difficult areas of practice. The working relationship is more about listening and understanding, and being a skilled ‘sounding board’ than giving advice.
It is also a place for recognizing your achievements, building up your resources and getting support for yourself as a practitioner.
Issues commonly arising are: boundaries, the client-practitioner relationship, growing and shaping your practice, identifying and achieving goals, developing expertise in Chinese medicine, practitioner isolation, stress and work-life balance.
I have found having mentoring and supervision invaluable for supporting my development as a practitioner, and for enjoying my chosen career and way of life.
